Its western boundary is formed by the Irish Sea, featuring a stretch of sandy beach and the grassy dunes of the Ainsdale and Birkdale Hills Local Nature Reserve. The area is primarily residential, characterised by a mix of Victorian and Edwardian properties along with more modern housing developments. The layout includes long, straight roads that run perpendicular to the coastline.
