About

Bordon and Lindford sit in East Hampshire where the town grew up around army camps established in the late 19th century. Much of the former Ministry of Defence land has been repurposed through the Whitehill & Bordon regeneration programme, turning barrack blocks and training areas into housing, business space and public greens. To the north and west the area meets Woolmer Forest National Nature Reserve, a stretch of lowland heath and pine woodland with sandy soils and a notable shallow pool, Woolmer Pond, that marks a historic waterhole in the forest.

The two settlements are served by local roads and community services, with shops, schools and social clubs clustered in Bordon and a smaller village centre at Lindford. Outdoor recreation follows the pattern of the landscape: marked trails, bridleways and open access land are used for walking and equestrian activity, and conservation work on the heaths focuses on maintaining habitat for heathland birds and reptiles. Local planning continues to balance new development with protection of the forest and heath.
