Bournville East & Stirchley West

Bournville East & Stirchley West sits in south-west Birmingham, centred on the garden suburb created by the Cadbury family. The Bournville Village Trust, set up in 1900, still manages large parts of the estate and its green spaces. The village green and the carillon tower remain focal points, set among rows of houses and small community facilities. Much of the housing was planned with shared open spaces and local shops close at hand, and the Cadbury factory and related buildings form part of the area’s built fabric rather than being tucked away elsewhere.

To the east, Stirchley West has a high street feel where independent shops, cafés and community projects cluster along Pershore Road and adjoining streets. Former workshops and small industrial sites have been adapted for new uses alongside council and private housing, and allotments and pocket parks provide local growing space. Public transport and bus routes link the ward with central Birmingham and neighbouring suburbs, while residents use a mix of long-established community groups and newer initiatives to shape day-to-day life in the area.
