Broadland

Broadland district sits to the north and east of Norwich in Norfolk and covers a mix of low-lying river valley, grazing marsh and settled villages. The district includes towns such as Aylsham, Acle, Wroxham and Reepham, and the council is based at Thorpe St Andrew. Rivers that shape the area include the Bure and the Yare, and sections of the Broads National Park fall within the district boundary, where navigation channels, drainage ditches and farmland meet within a managed water landscape.

The road and river network supports boating, arable farming and market towns on short distances between settlements. Reedbeds and grazing marsh provide habitat for wetland species and are crossed by footpaths and river trails. At Ranworth, the tower of St Helen’s church stands above the reeds and is used by visitors to look out over a wide expanse of open water and marsh, a local vantage point long recorded in guides to the Broads. Local villages retain small-scale services and village halls that act as community hubs.
