Broadstairs North

The northern part of Broadstairs occupies the coastal strip on the Isle of Thanet, where streets run down to a small harbour and a stepped shoreline of chalk and flint. The harbour shelters fishing boats and leisure craft beside a slipway and the local RNLI station. Narrow lanes lead from the seafront into terraces and rows of houses that reflect maritime development from the 19th century. Paths along the cliffs give access to small shingle coves cut into the headland and to a promenade used year-round by residents.

Local facilities cluster close to the shoreline: fishmongers, bakeries, and cafes sit near the pier, with short shopping streets serving everyday needs. A house long associated with Charles Dickens stands on the cliff, its name linked to the town’s literary past and visible from the promenade. Public transport and pedestrian links run inland from the coast, so the north area functions as a compact coastal neighbourhood with a mix of residential streets and marine activity.
