About

Buckinghamshire is a county in South East England governed by Buckinghamshire Council. It lies north-west of London and borders Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Berkshire; Milton Keynes is a separate unitary authority. Principal towns include Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Buckingham and Marlow, with a mix of market centres and residential suburbs served by local rail and road links.

Large parts of the county are within the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with rolling chalk scarp and beech woodlands running through towns such as Princes Risborough and Wendover. The Whiteleaf Cross sits on the Chiltern escarpment above the Vale of Aylesbury. The River Thames traces part of the southern edge around Marlow and Bourne End. Chiltern Railways provides frequent services into London Marylebone from stations including High Wycombe and Gerrards Cross, and the M40 and M25 carry regional road traffic. Land use ranges from arable fields and pasture to suburban housing and business parks, with local employment in manufacturing, technology and public services.
