Bures Hamlet, Maplestead & Belchamp

The area around Bures Hamlet, Maplestead and the Belchamps sits in the north-east of Braintree district in Essex. It comprises a string of small parishes and hamlets set among lanes and farmland. The River Stour runs through Bures and marks part of the Essex–Suffolk boundary; Bures Hamlet occupies the Essex side and shares services with the settlement across the river. Maplestead includes Great and Little Maplestead; Little Maplestead contains a 12-sided medieval round church that remains a local landmark.
