Burstead

Burstead ward lies on the southern edge of the Basildon district, characterised by a mix of residential and rural land. The area includes the distinct villages of Little Burstead and Great Burstead, which retain their own historic centres. Housing is primarily composed of detached and semi-detached homes, with significant modern development in the northeastern section. The landscape is defined by open fields and woodland, particularly to the south, where it borders the wider Essex countryside.

A notable feature is the presence of the 12th-century St. Mary Magdalene Church in Great Burstead, set within its original circular churchyard. The ward contains several small commercial areas serving local needs, alongside primary schools and community spaces. Road connections are provided by the A176 and B1007, linking it to Basildon town centre and Billericay. The terrain is gently undulating, with areas of green belt land influencing its overall low-density character.
