About

Camelford sits inland on the northern edge of Bodmin Moor, where the River Camel begins its journey to the coast. The town historically served as a stannary centre for tin mining, with its market charter dating to the 13th century. The landscape here is characterised by moorland fringes and river valleys, with the A39 trunk road passing through, connecting it to other parts of North Cornwall.

The nearby smaller settlement of Tresmeer lies a few miles to the east, situated on higher ground with views towards the moor. This is a more dispersed, agricultural parish. The area is known for Davidstow Moor immediately to the south, where the remains of a Second World War airfield now partly house a creamery producing a well-known cheddar cheese, its operations influenced by the local climate and terrain.
