About

Carnforth, Silverdale and Warton form a cluster of settlements on the northern edge of Morecambe Bay in north Lancashire. The area combines town services, coastal margins and limestone countryside. Silverdale lies within the Arnside and Silverdale AONB and provides access to shore paths and reed-fringed marsh. Carnforth developed around a railway junction and still has a working station with a preserved 1940s booking hall that featured in the film Brief Encounter. Warton sits close by and is linked by local lanes to the surrounding farmland and coast.

Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, adjacent to Silverdale, contains large reedbeds and is a wintering site for bitterns, served by hides and boardwalks. Warton Aerodrome occupies the village edge and is used for aircraft testing and maintenance. Warton Crag rises as a limestone outcrop with exposed pavement and a network of paths that cross grassland and scrub supporting specialised plants and breeding birds. Local facilities include small shops, pubs and a mix of canal and coastal walking routes used by residents and visitors.
