About

Castleton and the adjoining Trub lie within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale in Greater Manchester. The area is mainly residential with pockets of former textile industry — red-brick mill buildings and a few surviving chimneys — and compact shopping parades that serve everyday needs. Castleton railway station sits on the Caldervale Line and provides regular services toward Manchester and toward the Pennines; the station and the rail corridor shaped much of the district’s late-19th-century growth and still mark the local street pattern.

Housing is largely terraced streets with short runs of semi‑detached houses, interspersed with small public greens, community centres, primary schools and church halls. Local life revolves around small businesses, takeaways and social clubs with roots going back decades. Trub is a smaller, adjacent neighbourhood that shares the same street layout and access to the station. In recent years some former mill premises have been repurposed for light industry and storage, while community groups maintain allotments and pocket parks close to the residential area.
