About

Cattedown and Prince Rock form a compact stretch of Plymouth where riverside industry meets residential streets. Cattedown occupies the lower-lying edge along the estuary with wharves, warehouses and small industrial yards that step down to the water. Prince Rock rises to the south and is mainly housing with a primary school, local shops and sports pitches serving the neighbourhood. Bus routes and local roads link the two areas to the city centre and to suburbs further inland, while footpaths and cycle routes follow parts of the shoreline.

On the Cattedown foreshore there are outcrops of limestone and small cave pockets that yielded fossil and bone finds in the Victorian era, a reminder of the area’s long natural history. Community allotments, playing fields and narrow strips of riverside green sit between built-up plots, and working quays still handle local trade. The result is a place where everyday services, industrial activity and access to the water combine to shape daily life.
