About

Cranfield is a village and civil parish centred on Cranfield University, a postgraduate institution specialising in aerospace, engineering and transport research. The university campus occupies much of the parish and includes laboratories, testing facilities and an operational airfield used for flight trials, pilot training and industrial testing. Workshops, hangars and a control tower sit alongside teaching buildings, and access is via local roads linking the campus to neighbouring settlements. A small business and innovation park adjacent to the campus hosts spin-off companies and test facilities that work with university departments.

Aspley Guise lies a short distance east of Cranfield and retains a village centre of lanes, a village green and a parish church with medieval fabric. Housing ranges from 19th-century terraces to later estate development, with a small cluster of shops and two pubs serving the local community. Footpaths connect fields and hedgerows to the campus perimeter, and local events and clubs use village halls and recreation grounds for meetings and sports. Regular bus services link the villages to nearby centres, and the layout of lanes reflects the area's agricultural past.
