About

Cranleigh sits in the Borough of Waverley in Surrey, lying on the Cranleigh Waters, a tributary of the River Wey. Often described as England’s largest village, its high street runs through the centre and is home to independent shops, cafes and the parish church of St Nicolas. Cranleigh School, founded in the 19th century, occupies a substantial site on the village edge. Snoxhall Fields and the adjacent recreation grounds provide open space for fairs, sports and community gatherings, and small lanes lead out to surrounding farmland and commons.

The village was served by the single-track Cranleigh Line until the station closed in 1965; sections of the former trackbed are now used as foot and cycle routes. Local services include primary schools, health facilities and a mix of clubs and societies that meet in village halls and sports pavilions. The course of the Cranleigh Waters, the pattern of greens and back lanes, and the cluster of civic and educational buildings around the high street all contribute to the layout and daily life of the area.
