About

Cuxton and Halling sit along the River Medway within the Medway unitary authority in Kent. Both villages are linked by the Medway Valley Line, with stations at Cuxton and Halling that provide local rail connections. The settlements lie at the foot of the North Downs and are threaded by lanes, village greens and riverside paths. Local parish churches include medieval fabric that records the villages’ long rural history, and stretches of floodplain and marsh along the river form an important local habitat.

Industry has shaped the banks here: Halling retains visible evidence of chalk working and lime production, with a row of disused lime kilns and former wharf sites tucked beside the river. Cuxton shows traces of river trade and small-scale farming in field patterns and old farm buildings. From higher ground there are clear views across the Medway toward the Hoo Peninsula, and a series of public footpaths links the two villages with the Downs and the riverbank.
