About

Dore sits on the south‑west edge of Sheffield and was historically part of Derbyshire before becoming part of the city. The village has a compact centre with local shops, a long‑standing parish church, and Dore & Totley railway station on the Hope Valley Line, which provides direct services into Sheffield and across the Pennines. Residential streets give way fairly quickly to streams and small green corridors; Whirlow Brook and Limb Brook cross the ward and are used by local walkers and schools for outdoor education.

Whirlow is anchored by Whirlow Hall Farm, a working city farm and education charity that runs school visits, a weekend market and seasonal events, and sits beside Whirlow Brook Park. A network of public footpaths and bridleways links gardens and playing fields to larger tracts of open land, so it is common to move from suburban streets into fields or wooded valleys within a short walk. Local governance, community groups and the farm all play an active role in managing those green spaces.
