Dronfield South & Gosforth Lane sits to the south of Dronfield town centre in North East Derbyshire. The ward is mainly residential, with local shops and services grouped along Gosforth Lane and adjacent streets. Transport links include Dronfield railway station on the Sheffield–Chesterfield line, with regular services to both towns, and the A61 for road journeys. The River Drone runs through the area, cutting a narrow valley that has influenced where streets and older mill buildings were sited, and there are short stretches of green corridor and allotments that follow the river course.
