About

Dunstable South sits on the southern edge of the market town of Dunstable in Central Bedfordshire, where town streets give way to the rising chalk of the Downs. The area includes stretches of the town centre with shops and civic buildings clustered near the old Priory site, and residential terraces and post-war estates that slope up toward the escarpment. The A5, following the line of Watling Street, runs close to the town and marks a clear transport corridor on the western side of the southern quarter.

Beyond the last housing the ground rises sharply to the Dunstable Downs, a stretch of chalk grassland managed for public access. That scarp is used regularly for kite flying and slope-based gliding activities, and the exposed chalk faces and small pits record the local geology in plain view. Paths lead from the southern streets onto longer ridge walks, and the change from town to open slope is a notable transition within this part of Central Bedfordshire.
