Dunster

Dunster ward encompasses the historic village of Dunster and surrounding rural landscapes within Exmoor National Park. The area is dominated by the presence of Dunster Castle, a former fortress and country house with terraced gardens, which overlooks the settlement. The ward includes farmland and wooded areas that are part of the national park's scenery, with the River Avill flowing through the parish. Local geography is characterised by the transition from the Vale of Taunton Deane towards the higher moorland of Exmoor.

The ward's economy is closely linked to tourism and agriculture, centred on the preserved medieval village with its yarn market and tithe barn. A working watermill, driven by the River Avill, continues to operate as a visitor attraction. The area maintains a distinct character defined by its historic built environment, protected status within the national park, and its position as a gateway to the moorland. The West Somerset Railway steam line serves the village, providing a specific transport link.
