East Wolds and Coastal

The East Wolds and Coastal ward encompasses a rural expanse of the Yorkshire Wolds, characterised by rolling chalk hills and farmland. The landscape is defined by dry valleys and springline villages nestled along the escarpment. Agricultural activity shapes the area, with large arable fields and livestock farming prevalent across the open terrain. The sparse settlement pattern includes parishes such as Burton Fleming and Rudston, the latter home to the tallest standing stone in Britain.

The ward extends to the North Sea coastline, featuring the clay cliffs and beach at Bempton. This section is internationally significant for its seabird colonies, with vast numbers nesting on the cliff faces each spring. Inland, the topography gradually rises from the coastal plain into the wolds, crossed by rural lanes connecting scattered communities. The overall character is one of working countryside and protected natural habitats.
