About

Eastbourne is a seaside district on the south coast of England, in East Sussex. The borough centres on a long seafront with a Victorian pier, a promenade and an esplanade, and a town centre clustered around the station and the Towner art gallery. The harbour quarter at Sovereign Harbour provides a marina and housing to the east, while Devonshire Park and its tennis lawns host an annual grass-court tournament that draws players each summer. The council provides civic services and the area includes parks and community facilities.

To the south the seafront meets the English Channel and to the east the chalk cliffs of Beachy Head rise from the shoreline, with the Beachy Head Lighthouse offshore. Northwards the land climbs to the downs that form the western edge of the South Downs National Park, with footpaths and chalk outcrops. Transport links include the A22 and rail services to Lewes and London, keeping Eastbourne accessible while retaining a compact urban area.
