About

Elmbridge is a borough in Surrey, in South East England, set north of the Surrey Hills and along a bend of the River Thames. Towns include Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Cobham, Esher, Oxshott and Hersham. The River Wey Navigation joins the Thames at Weybridge; river clubs and towpaths run through Walton and Weybridge. Painshill Park, an 18th-century landscape garden, sits near Cobham. At Weybridge the Brooklands site records early 20th-century motor racing: a banked circuit built in 1907 now hosts the Brooklands Museum and business park on the original track.

Elmbridge combines suburban centres, open common land such as Esher Common and wooded private estates in Oxshott, with rail links into central London from several stations. High streets provide shops, markets and services for surrounding villages, while small industrial and office areas are concentrated around Brooklands and the A3 corridor. Local planning balances housing demand with Green Belt protections. Sports clubs, riverside moorings and a mix of public parks and long footpaths shape daily life for residents who commute, work locally or use the river for leisure.
