Enfield Lock

Enfield Lock sits along the River Lee Navigation where a working lock shapes the riverside. The towpath is used by walkers, cyclists and narrowboats, and the river corridor defines much of the local layout. The former Royal Small Arms Factory occupied a large site here for more than a century; parts of the old brick workshops and boundary walls are still visible within the housing that now occupies the factory footprint. Enfield Lock station on the West Anglia line provides regular trains to Liverpool Street and to Hertford East, making rail the clearest link to central London and to Hertfordshire towns.

The area mixes residential streets, small commercial units and light industry in short distances, and local services cluster near the station. Community facilities include shops, a primary school and sports spaces serving the neighbourhood. Street patterns reflect the factory-era estate roads, and traces of the manufacturing past appear in place names and surviving buildings. Transport, riverside access and the industrial-to-residential transformation define how the area feels and functions today.
