About

Fairy Water ward covers a rural area in the eastern part of the Fermanagh and Omagh district. The landscape is characterised by low, rolling drumlins and agricultural land, with the Fairy Water river itself flowing through. Settlements here are small and dispersed, including the village of Newtownsaville. The local economy has traditionally been based on farming and some small-scale industry.

The ward is named for the Fairy Water river, a tributary of the Strule. The area is part of the historical barony of Omagh East. A notable local feature is the well-preserved, multi-chambered Annaghone Court Tomb, a Neolithic burial site situated on a hillside overlooking the river valley. This ancient monument points to a long history of human settlement in the area.
