About

Fermanagh and Omagh district covers much of County Fermanagh and the western part of County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. It is centred on two towns, Enniskillen and Omagh. The landscape is shaped by the Lough Erne system: Upper and Lower Lough Erne contain more than 1,300 islands and a network of channels and inlets. Enniskillen sits on an island between the two loughs and the River Erne threads through the district, linking lakes, canals and shore communities and supporting boating and angling.

To the north and east the district rises into hills and peatland, including parts of the Sperrin Mountains. Omagh stands at the confluence of the Camowen and Drumragh rivers, which join to form the River Strule. Westward there are cave systems and karst features associated with the Marble Arch Caves Geopark, alongside upland walking routes across blanket bog and ridgelines. The local economy combines farming, forestry and tourism, and transport corridors follow valley floors and lough shorelines.
