Fallowfield West & Whalley Range South

Fallowfield West is a largely residential quarter south of Manchester city centre, notable for its concentration of student housing and long runs of terraced streets. The Wilmslow Road bus corridor crosses the area, providing frequent services into the city, and local shopping sits along Wilbraham Road and Wilmslow Road. Platt Fields Park lies close by, with an ornamental lake and community spaces used for events and informal sport. A former railway line, now the Fallowfield Loop shared-use path, cuts through the neighbourhood and links to cycle and walking routes across the south of the city, passing the site of the old Fallowfield station.

Whalley Range South contains larger nineteenth-century houses and a street pattern laid out in the Victorian period, with several churches and community centres serving long-established local populations. The area mixes family homes, converted properties and small purpose-built blocks, and it has local schools and independent shops clustered on main roads. Residential streets here often open onto small greens or tree-lined avenues, and the Fallowfield Loop and Wilmslow Road provide direct pedestrian and bus connections back toward the university precinct and central Manchester.
