Farndon & Fernwood

Farndon & Fernwood is a ward on the southwestern edge of Newark and Sherwood, encompassing both a historic riverside settlement and a large modern development. The area includes the village of Farndon, situated on the north bank of the River Trent and connected to Nottinghamshire by a notable toll bridge. The adjacent Fernwood is a purpose-built, primarily residential community constructed from the late 1990s onward, featuring extensive housing estates and its own local amenities.

The landscape transitions from the older, linear form of Farndon, with its village green and historic church, to the planned layout of Fernwood with its central parkway and community facilities. The ward is characterised by this distinct contrast between the established agricultural surroundings of the village and the newer suburban neighbourhood. The River Trent forms a significant natural boundary, with the toll bridge providing a specific and enduring link across the county border into Lincolnshire.
