About

The Fowey, Tywardreath & Par ward encompasses a stretch of Cornwall's south coast centred around the estuary of the River Fowey. The historic port town of Fowey sits on the western side, its narrow streets leading down to a busy harbour. On the eastern bank lies the village of Polruan, accessible by a frequent foot ferry. Inland, the area includes the older settlement of Tywardreath and extends to the industrial heritage at Par, where a large sand beach and working docks exist side by side.

The landscape is defined by the broad river estuary, which is a major centre for sailing and commercial shipping. Inland areas rise into wooded valleys. A unique feature is the presence of the Saints' Way, a long-distance footpath crossing the peninsula from coast to coast. The ward's economy has long been connected to the river, with china clay exports from Par Docks remaining a significant activity alongside tourism and fishing. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are located just north of the ward's boundary.
