Franche is a residential area within the Wyre Forest district, immediately north of Kidderminster town centre. The neighbourhood grew through 20th-century housing developments and is arranged around a series of small greens, lanes and allotments. At its western edge a network of footpaths and bridleways runs down to the wooded fringe of Wyre Forest, giving direct walking access to the outer rides without entering the main forest car parks. Local streets are punctuated by strips of shops and a cluster of community facilities that serve the surrounding streets.

Community life centres on the Franche Community Centre and the adjoining playing fields, where local football and cricket teams use marked pitches through the season. A primary school, a handful of convenience stores and regular bus links to Kidderminster town and the railway station provide daily services.
