Fulford, Heslington & University

Fulford sits just south of York city centre beside the River Ouse. The area mixes residential streets and local shops along Fulford Road, the main route into the city, with a parish church at its centre and a village feel around the green. The floodplain nearby is the named location of the 1066 Battle of Fulford, and pockets of open ground and allotments run down toward the river. Local facilities include a community hub, pubs, and a golf club that fronts part of the river corridor.

Heslington and the University of York occupy the land to the east and southeast, where a planned campus of colleges and courts surrounds a central lake. Heslington Hall, a historic manor house, sits within the university grounds alongside modern lecture buildings, research units and the adjacent York Science Park. Paths link the campus to the village of Heslington with its parish church and small cluster of shops. The area is used daily for teaching, research and sport, with college accommodation and public green space woven into the campus fabric.
