About

Gedling is a district in Nottinghamshire immediately to the east and north-east of Nottingham city, covering towns and villages such as Arnold, Carlton, Netherfield, Gedling village and Bestwood Village. The area combines suburban streets with former mining villages and pockets of open land. On the ridge above Gedling Country Park the large pit wheel from the former Gedling Colliery stands as a local landmark and marks the park’s network of paths and viewpoints. Bestwood Country Park and other green spaces trace the district’s industrial past alongside surviving village layouts and community buildings.

The district stretches down towards the River Trent at Colwick and is served by regular bus links into Nottingham and by a network of local roads. Community facilities include leisure centres, libraries and market streets in Arnold and Carlton. Planning and services are managed by Gedling Borough Council, which balances housing areas with conservation sites and public parks. The combination of country park ridges, former colliery works and suburban wards shapes how residents use the land and local services.
