Gunton East, Corton & Somerleyton

The area covers a coastal-to-rural stretch of East Suffolk. Gunton East sits on the northern edge of Lowestoft and functions largely as a residential quarter with local shops, schools and bus links into town. Corton is the next village along the coast, facing the North Sea; its shoreline and beachfront are used by locals and visitors and the settlement retains links to fishing and coastal activity. Roads and cycle routes connect the settlements and provide access to services concentrated in Lowestoft.

Somerleyton lies inland on the River Waveney, centred on the Somerleyton estate and its listed hall and gardens. The village was largely rebuilt in the mid-19th century by the railway contractor Samuel Morton Peto, who laid out estate cottages and village streets; the station on the Wherry Lines gives direct rail links toward Norwich and Lowestoft. Surrounding land is a mix of arable fields, hedgerows and river meadow, with local footpaths and lanes used for farming access and recreational walks.
