Hamble-le-Rice

Hamble-le-Rice sits on the eastern bank of the River Hamble in the Borough of Eastleigh, where the river meets the Solent. The shoreline is lined with marinas, boatyards and refit yards that support a busy sailing scene; pontoons and moorings crowd the river channel and the mudflats reveal rows of wooden mooring posts at low tide. A small passenger ferry links the village slipway to Warsash across the estuary, and sailing schools and charter operators run from Hamble Point Marina and private berths along the river.

Hamble Common Local Nature Reserve sits to the south of the village, with saltmarsh, reedbeds and public paths that run alongside tidal creeks. The village retains maritime and aviation traces: a former flying-boat base and aircraft works occupied riverfront sites through the 20th century, and workshop businesses continue boatbuilding and rigging craft. The compact village centre includes narrow lanes, waterfront pubs, a parish church and yacht clubs that host regular club racing, keeping the river in daily use by local skippers and visiting crews.
