About

Headington lies east of Oxford city centre, centred on a long High Street running from London Road toward Barton. The area is a mix of residential streets, local shops and health and education sites: the John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals form a medical cluster on Headington Hill, and campus buildings and halls occupy parts of the hill and surrounding streets. Buses link Headington to the centre and to the ring road, and the A420/London Road gives direct road access toward the eastern suburbs and outlying villages.

Headington Hill Park and Headington Hill Hall provide public open space and a tree-lined slope above the High Street. In the east, Headington Quarry recalls the area’s stone-quarrying past that once supplied local building stone. Close to the junction with New High Street, a rooftop sculpture of an upside-down shark has become a local landmark visible from the road. Small parades of shops, cafés and community centres sit within shorter streets, while terraces and semis step up the hill toward the residential edges of the suburb.
