Heath

Dartford Heath is a stretch of common land on the edge of Dartford town in Kent. Open ground of grass and low scrub sits between housing and minor roads, with clear tracks and footpaths across the site. The heath is used daily by local people for walking, dog exercise and informal sport, and there are marked spaces for ball games and parking close to the main entrances. Management is aimed at keeping the space accessible while retaining its open character.

Paths cross areas of sandy soil where gorse and silver birch form small clumps amid low heather and grass, giving the heath an appearance unlike the more urban parks nearby. Signposts and a simple network of gates and stiles guide walkers from residential streets onto the open land, and benches are placed at a few junctions. The site functions as a local green buffer, supporting everyday recreation and short circular walks without leaving the town.
