Heysham Central ward lies along the western edge of the Lancaster district, bordered by Morecambe Bay. The area is primarily residential, with a mix of housing estates and local shopping parades serving the community. Its coastline includes the Heysham Harbour complex, a significant port for freight and passenger ferry services to Ireland and the Isle of Man. The ward contains several schools and green spaces, including the playing fields at Trumacar Park.

A notable historical site within the ward is Heysham Head, home to the ruins of St. Patrick's Chapel and ancient rock-cut graves dating from the Viking period. The landscape here contrasts the modern industrial port with these older coastal features. Local infrastructure is shaped by the presence of Heysham nuclear power stations, situated just to the south, which are a major employer.
