Heysham and Overton form a coastal area on the southern side of Morecambe Bay, within the Lancaster district. The landscape is characterised by low cliffs, rocky shorelines, and expanses of salt marsh. Heysham is a working port with ferry services to the Isle of Man, lending the area a distinct maritime character. The village centre contains a mix of local shops and residential streets, while the port infrastructure is a prominent feature along the waterfront.

Overton sits to the south, a smaller settlement directly facing the vast tidal flats of the bay.
