About

High Lane is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester. The village centre has a high street with independent shops, a village green, a primary school and a community centre. Local sports clubs include cricket and bowls, and regular activities take place at the parish church and village hall. Housing ranges from older terraces to later suburban developments, and built-up streets sit alongside pockets of farmland and small woodlands used for informal recreation and dog walking.

The former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway runs through High Lane and has been converted into the Middlewood Way, a surfaced trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. On the trail the disused High Lane station platform and shelter remain, tucked into a cutting with hedgerow and stonework visible from the path. The Way provides direct access to countryside on the eastern fringe of the Peak District and links the village to neighbouring communities via public transport and a network of local lanes.
