Hillsborough ward lies in the northwest of Sheffield, centred on the suburb of the same name. The area is defined by the convergence of major routes like the A61 and the River Don, which flows through its southern edge. Its geography includes residential streets built across its slopes and the open parkland of Hillsborough Park, a central green space with sports facilities. The local economy is anchored by the busy retail precinct along Middlewood Road and Bradfield Road.

The ward is notably home to Hillsborough Stadium, the long-standing ground of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, which dominates the local landscape on matchdays. Transportation is served by a tram terminus connecting directly to Sheffield city centre. Residential areas comprise a mix of traditional terraced housing and interwar semis, with industrial heritage sites near the river.
