HIston, Impington & Orchard Park

Histon and Impington sit immediately north of Cambridge as a paired parish in South Cambridgeshire. The area is centred on two village high streets with shops, pubs, primary schools and playing fields, and retains a mix of housing from different periods. Impington Village College stands on the edge of the settlement; the college building was designed by Walter Gropius and Maxwell Fry and remains a local landmark. Local groups use recreation grounds, a community centre and sports pitches, and the River Cam and surrounding drainage channels mark parts of the parish boundary.

Orchard Park occupies the land to the east of Impington and was developed as a planned residential neighbourhood with local shops, play areas and community facilities. Several green corridors and shared allotment spaces run through the estate, reflecting the area’s history of market gardening. Regular bus and cycle routes link the three communities to Cambridge city centre, while the A14 lies a short distance to the north, separating the villages from farmland beyond.
