About

Holland-on-Sea sits on the Essex coastline in the Tendring district, with a seafront facing the North Sea. The shoreline combines stretches of pebble and sand that widen at low tide, protected by a concrete sea wall and a line of wooden groynes running into the water. From the promenade there are regular glimpses of the offshore sandbank and its wind turbines on Gunfleet Sands, which sit beyond the foreshore. A slipway and informal beach access points give direct entry to the strand for sea anglers and people launching small craft.

Inland the area is a mix of residential streets and a compact parade of local shops and services, with footpaths running along the seafront and into the reed-lined channels at the Holland Haven end. Those channels thread into saltmarsh that floods on higher tides and attracts waders and wildfowl. The village is served by local roads and regular buses within Tendring, and the seaside route along the promenade is commonly used for walking, cycling and dog exercise.
