About

Hoole ward is a predominantly rural area in the eastern part of the borough. Its landscape is characterised by agricultural land and scattered settlements, with the villages of Much Hoole and Little Hoole forming its main population centres. The ward's boundaries are largely defined by surrounding parishes and the course of the River Douglas to the south.

The area has a notable historical connection to astronomy. In the 17th century, Jeremiah Horrocks, who made the first recorded observation of the transit of Venus, conducted his work from Much Hoole. The parish church of St Michael, where he was curate, remains a focal point in the village. Modern Hoole maintains its agricultural character while functioning as a residential area for nearby urban centres.
