Horsell

Horsell is a village and suburb in the borough of Woking, Surrey, immediately north of Woking town centre. The area centres on a modest high street with shops, a primary school, a village hall and several community groups. Housing ranges from late 19th- and early 20th-century terraces to post-war and more recent developments; part of the settlement is covered by a conservation designation that preserves street patterns and local character. Horsell Common sits beside the village as an extensive area of heath, mixed woodland and ponds crossed by a network of public footpaths. One well-known hollow in the common is the sandpit used by H. G. Wells as the landing place in The War of the Worlds, and it remains accessible from the main tracks.
