About

Hoylake and Meols is a coastal ward on the north Wirral peninsula, fronting the Irish Sea. The area centres on the historic settlement of Hoylake, with its lifeboat station and sailing club, and extends to the neighbouring village of Meols. Its shoreline is defined by a vast, sandy beach and a stretch of vegetated sand dunes known as the North Wirral Coastal Park. This open coastline is a noted location for wind-based sports, particularly championship-level kite buggying and land sailing.

Inland, the ward is primarily residential, characterised by Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing near the coast and more modern developments further south. The area retains a distinct high street with independent shops and local pubs. A notable feature is the Meols Hall estate, with its historic manor house and grounds, which remains privately owned. The ward is also known for the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, a historic links course that has hosted The Open Championship.
