Kempsey is a village on the River Severn floodplain, with a historic core centred around its church and former coaching inn. The area is largely residential, with housing estates extending towards the M5 motorway. The flat, open landscape is characterised by agricultural fields and the meandering course of the river.

Ryall is a smaller, more dispersed settlement to the south, situated on slightly higher ground near the A38. The hamlet is surrounded by farmland and pockets of woodland. The area is known for its network of public footpaths, including a section of the long-distance Severn Way, which follows the riverbank.
