Knowsley

Knowsley is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, in North West England, immediately east of the city of Liverpool. The district includes towns such as Kirkby, Huyton, Prescot and Halewood and is crossed by the M57 and M62 motorways, which link local industry to regional routes. The landscape mixes housing estates, post-industrial land and pockets of countryside; large green areas and village corridors sit alongside residential and commercial zones. Transport hubs and suburban centres concentrate much of the borough’s population and services.

The borough contains long-standing estates and manufacturing sites alongside newer business parks. Knowsley Hall and its surrounding parkland occupy a central place in local history and land use, and nearby Knowsley Safari Park offers a drive-through reserve where visitors encounter free-ranging mammals. Community regeneration programmes focus on housing renewal, skills and employment, while local museums and civic spaces in Prescot and Huyton record the area’s industrial and civic past. Planning in the borough continues to balance built growth with retained parkland and estate landscapes.
