About

Leek is a market town in the Staffordshire Moorlands, with a centre built around the Market Place and parish church. The market runs through the week and on Saturdays, with stalls selling food, plants and household goods. Rows of shops and cafes line the streets off the market and the town retains a range of 18th- and 19th-century stone buildings and terraces. Civic buildings and independent stores make up much of the centre, and there is a regular programme of community events held in the town and market square.

Open moorland, farmed valleys and minor roads extend outwards from the town, giving direct access to walking, cycling and riding routes on the Moorlands. A short drive or ride leads to reservoirs and upland lanes used by clubs and schools. The town's long association with onion growing and selling appears in market trading and in an annual summer event that brings traders and visitors into the centre, keeping an agricultural thread to Leek's market traditions.
