Limehouse East

Limehouse East in Tower Hamlets sits on the north bank of the Thames around Limehouse Basin, where the Regent's Canal meets the river. The basin contains moorings and a marina and a set of lock gates that control the water between canal and Thames. Narrow Street runs along the river with rows of 18th- and 19th-century brick houses and former warehouses converted into homes and restaurants, reflecting the district's shipbuilding and merchant history. The Thames Path follows the waterfront and links promenades and small quays.

Transport includes Limehouse station, served by the Docklands Light Railway and c2c trains, and several bus routes that run through the area. St Anne's Church, by Nicholas Hawksmoor, stands close to the river and hosts community events. Local life centres on boat maintenance yards, small workshops, independent cafes and a regular market near the basin. Planning and recent housing developments have added new blocks alongside older terraces, creating a mix of private and social housing with direct access to the water and towpaths.
