Matlock East & Tansley

The Matlock East & Tansley ward encompasses a mix of residential and rural landscapes on the eastern edge of the town. The area includes the historic settlement of Tansley, which grew around its mill ponds and stone quarrying industry. Housing ranges from Victorian terraces to modern developments, set against the steep, wooded slopes that characterise this part of the Derwent Valley. The ward's boundaries extend into the surrounding farmland and uplands of the Peak District National Park.

A network of footpaths connects the communities, including routes along the old railway line and up to the Heights of Abraham hilltop park. Tansley Moor provides open access heathland with distinctive gritstone outcrops. Local commerce is focused along Smedley Street and within the smaller business units that occupy some former industrial sites, reflecting the area's transition from a manufacturing base to a more service-led economy.
