Melksham South

Melksham South lies immediately south of Melksham town centre and contains a mix of residential streets, local shops, primary schools and sports pitches. The area blends suburban housing with pockets of light industry and small business units, and footpaths and cycle routes link neighbourhoods to the centre. To the south-east the built-up area meets Bowerhill, where larger industrial estates and employment sites begin, and to the south the town gives way to farmland and hedgerows at the edge of the Wiltshire plain.

Rail access is provided by Melksham station on the TransWilts line; the single-platform stop was reopened in 2013 and is used by services between Swindon, Melksham and destinations to the south. The A350 and local bus routes give road connections to nearby towns. Land use in Melksham South reflects incremental growth over the 20th century, with post-war housing estates sitting alongside newer developments and pockets of open space that mark the transition from town to surrounding countryside.
